Classes & Activities
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, all programs are on pause. Please refer to the home page or our current newsletter for services that are still taking place.
The best sources for current information about classes and activities are the monthly calendar and bi-monthly newsletter. Below is a sample of some of our typical monthly offerings.
Please note that some of our activities are held outside of the Senior Center, so be sure to note the location when reviewing the Calendar. Also, on the Calendar some activities require that you make a reservation or appointment - this is signified by a phone icon next to the entry. The cribbage group plays once a month usually on a Wednesday afternoon between 1:00 - 3:00 p.m. Check the Center’s calendar for this month’s schedule. Cribbage is free and open to all levels of experience.
Come play bridge every other Tuesday, 1:00 - 4:00 p.m. Check the Center’s calendar for this month’s schedule. Bridge is free and open to all levels of experience.
This group is led by Karen Earle and meets every other Friday, starting at 9:30 a.m. Check the Center’s calendar for this month’s schedule. There is no cost but participants must pre-register by calling the Senior Center, 413-625-2502.
This class usually meets on Tuesday mornings, 8:30 to 11:30 and is led by Clint Davis. The format is sometimes a formal class on a particular aspect of using computers, and sometimes it’s one-on-one computer assistance. Both PCs and Macs are covered. Classes are free.
Led by Board Certified Tai Chi instructors. The practice of tai chi helps relieve joint pain, muscle stiffness, and reduces high blood pressure, among other effects.
Monday and Thursday classes are at the Center, and are led by Lois Bascom, 8:30 AM - 9:15 AM. on Monday, and 9:00-9:45 a.m. on Thursday. Cost - free for members, $10.00 per month for non-members.
Wednesday classes are led by Deb Yaffee, 9:30 AM - 10:15 AM, at the First Congregational Church, 429 Main Street, Ashfield. $24 / month for members and $40 / month for non-members.
Healthy Bones and Balance Class
Wednesdays, 10:00 AM - 11:00 AM at the Center; Thursdays, 9:30 AM - 10:30 AM at St. John’s Corner, 469 Main Street, Ashfield
RSVP, the volunteer connector for people 55 and over in the Pioneer Valley, sponsor a self-paced, low impact, one-hour exercise class to promote healthy bones and balance. It is an ongoing program, led by instructors trained by RSVP. Exercises can be done sitting or standing and the classes are free thanks to our volunteers. Donations from non-members are welcome.
Wednesdays and Thursday, 8:30 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. The Wednesday classes are guided by a yoga CD. Larry Baird leads the Thursday classes. For each class we ask you to register and pay by the month. The fee for Ashfield, Buckland and Shelburne residents is $10.00 per month for once per week, and $15.00 a month for twice per week. Non-member residents pay either $20.00 or $25.00.
Men’s Night Programs
The Men’s Group meets on the second Wednesday of each month, from 5:00 PM to 7:30 PM for food and trips. Past trips have included visits to Branson Glassblowing Studio, Foxbard Farms, Floodwater Brewery, just to name a few. Call 625-2502 if you are interested in attending.
